How Can I Help?

Karen provides psychological assessment and treatment for children, adolescents and young adults up to the age of 25 years, working with individuals and their families.

Psychological Assessment

Assessment is important to clarify developmental, emotional, social and behavioural concerns and to determine the most appropriate treatment approach. Assessment for neurodiversity, including Autism and ADHD, can be provided.

Children

Psychological care of children may include working individually with the child, with parents or with the family, and liaising with other health professionals if appropriate.

Adolescents and Young Adults

Support and understanding of adolescents and young adults up to 25 years of age is provided. Treatment is planned together to meet the young person's needs and individual context.

Anxiety Disorders

Treatment of anxiety disorders such as panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, social anxiety, separation anxiety and selective (situational) mutism.

Autism and ADHD

Karen works with children and young people with Autism, ADHD and co-occurring mental health issues.

Mood and Eating Disorders

Treatment of mood disorders, including Depression and Bipolar Disorder, and eating disorders, including Binge Eating Disorder and Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID).

Parenting Support

Karen will work together with parents to assist them in understanding and meeting the individual needs of their child, to enable a happy and fulfilling relationship with their child.

Challenging Behaviours

Understanding the factors that contribute to behaviours such as deliberate self-harm, school refusal, sleep difficulties, emotional outbursts, social difficulties and body-image issues, and using this understanding to provide appropriate treatment.

Clinical Supervision

Karen has been an AHPRA-registered clinical psychology supervisor, and she provides psychology supervision to clinical psychologists, educational and developmental psychologists, and other psychologists working in private practice, educational settings or community agencies.

Referrals and rebates

Medicare and Private Health Rebates

A referral is not required to attend appointments. Medicare rebates are available only with an appropriate referral from your GP, paediatrician or psychiatrist.

About Karen

Karen Haydon, B.B.Sc (Hons), M. Psych (Clinical)

Karen is a registered clinical psychologist who established her private practice in 2008 and now practises in Malvern. With over 20 years experience, she has always chosen to work with children, adolescents and young adults.

She is an AHPRA-registered clinical psychologist, a full member of the Australian Psychological Society, a member of the College of Clinical Psychologists, and is eligible to provide clinical psychology services under Medicare.

Referrals & Rebates

A referral is not required to attend appointments. However, Medicare rebates are available with an appropriate referral from your GP, paediatrician or psychiatrist. Private health insurance rebates may also be applicable depending on your health fund and level of cover.

Fees can be discussed at the time of referral.
